I hate to break the fourth wall in my first blog post ever and address the fact that this is for a class but I’m going to do it anyway. Before SW230, I had absolutely no interest in creating or maintaining a blog for the sole reason that I didn’t see the purpose. My experience with blogs in the past had been that of wholly unqualified people talking about things they had no real knowledge about… As well as to share pointless memes such as this one:

But this was all when I trusted the mass media. If I have taken anything away from this class so far, it is a distrust in corporate America. Sure, I probably sound just like a hippie expressing his hatred for “the man,” but maybe this hatred is completely called for. If corporations have been able to overtake and taint one of the supposedly purist institutions in society, the media, then who knows what else they are capable of doing. The media cannot be a watchdog for the rest of society when the rest of society owns it just like a boy cannot punish his father.

The only real cure we have at the moment for this ailment to our news is citizen reporting. The easiest form is in blogs. Thus I have found the true purpose of writing a blog: to get back at the man.
